Bethany Hamilton
Bethany Hamilton was born on February 8, 1920 in Lihue, Hawaii. Bethany has become a inspiration to millions through her story of determination, faith and hope. Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark, which bit off her left arm and seemed to end her career as a surfer. Just one month after the attack, Bethany returned to the water and just over a year later won her first National title. In 2007, Bethany realized her dream of surfing professionally and since then her story has been told nation wide in an autobiography about her self. Bethany is involved in numerous charitable efforts, including her own foundation, Friends of Bethany, which supports shark attack survivors, traumatic amputees, and serves to inspire others through her life story. Now as a professional surfer, wife, Christian, motivational speaker, and healthy lifestyle advocate, Bethany continues to touch and inspire lives globally.
